!Gariep
Built in Japan in 1983 as the crane vessel Shinsho 300, the ship was acquired by the De Beers group in 1995 and converted for diamond mining operations off the coast of Namibia, South Africa.
!Gariep was converted ahead of schedule at A&P Tyne's Hebburn facility in 2003. The work involved cutting the ship in two, lengthening by 12.8m, complete refurbishment of the vessel's SOLAS systems, installation of 35m high drilling tower and associated mining systems.
