A&P is one of Europe’s largest commercial ship repair and conversion specialists, operating dry docks and port operations in Falmouth, Cornwall. A vacancy has arisen within the business for a Design Engineer with a mechanical bias to assist with work for the vessels managed by A&P Group under the RFA Cluster Contract, and other commercial vessels.

Reporting to the Design Manager, providing support to him and working within the Cluster Support Team (CST):-

Key Responsibilities:
• Production of design specifications for allocated Alteration & Addition (A&A) packages
• Liaise with Ship’s Staff, CST and A&P personnel when producing design specifications
• Conduct ship surveys as required to aid accurate design specifications
• Maintain a progress log of allocated design work
• Technical advice and support, including processing of Technical Queries (TQs)
• Ensuring appropriate and required Design Authority where applicable, i.e. LRS and MCA approvals for design solutions
• Working to strict deadlines and achieving KPIs
• Administrate design documentation for allocated tasking

Deliver Design Specifications that:
• Minimises risk in implementation, against cost and technical parameters
• Improves contract performance against allocated performance indicators
• Introduces innovations which benefit the RFA, MoD and the Ship Cluster Owner (A&P)

Key Qualifications and Technical Skills:
• Suitably Qualified and Experienced Person (SQEP) in either maritime mechanical or electrical installations
• Familiarity with and general understanding of ship’s systems
• Experience and knowledge of A&A design and implementation
• Able to produce accurate and comprehensive A&A specifications
• Computer literate, including MS Office suite and AutoCAD LT
• Previous experience of working in MoD/RFA/RN environment would be beneficial

The successful candidate will be primarily based in Falmouth although must have a valid passport and will be required to travel worldwide for short durations. They will also be required to obtain MoD security clearance to SC level.
