Purpose of Role:

The Project Management department is critical to the business as the main interface between the company and its customer. The project function incorporates the following: -

  • Co-ordinate and expedite all aspects of the project including production, purchasing, commercial and sub-contractors on the project.
  • Familiarise and understand all aspects for specification, tender and associated documentation.
  • Assist in planning project from commencement to completion, working with other members of the team to ensure project safety, delivery, quality and profitability are met.
  • Liaise with on-site Client team ensuring all issues are captured and documented.
  • To help manage all aspects of production with regards to project delivery including but not limited to: resources – equipment and man power; suppliers;
  • Assist Project Manager in overall responsible for project delivery and monitoring to ensure that at all times the department is working within the company's current policies on financial constraints, quality requirements operational procedures and achieve client satisfaction.
  • To manage small projects per above requirements.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring compliance with the company Project Management procedure.
  • Assist in planning and evaluating project requirements with Project Manager/Production Controller/Supervisors and contractors and establish the necessary team and help organise resources in conjunction with HR/purchasing as needed.
  • Identifying and assist in the management of risk and high-risk activities.
  • Ensuring compliance with the company safety, quality and environmental policies.
  • Evaluating project requirements and establish the necessary team.
  • Arranging planning and project meetings during the build of the project.
  • Work with all departments and contractors to forecast the project labour requirements.
  • Monitoring the working of any overtime on the project and documenting all timesheets.
  • Managing/assisting with the day to day project operations.
  • Monitoring of daily man hour spend to ensure completion with agreed targets.
  • Monitoring sub contractor’s performance to ensure timely completion.
  • Maintaining the project achievement percentages to highlight any areas of concern.
  • Liaising with customers to ensure awareness of all project aspects.
  • Attend, chair (if needed) and maintaining daily meetings and records with client/contractors and other business departments as needed.
  • Listing and updating of all project schedules.
  • Agreement of variations to the contract with the customer.
  • Notifying contract variations to the Project Manager.
  • Ensuring that the project is delivered on time and within the agreed budgets to ensure the satisfaction of both the company and the customer.
  • Finalising and documenting all project paperwork including arranging project wash up meetings.
  • Taking an active role in customer care, hospitality and entertainment as required and sanctioned by the Managing Director.
  • Undertake Project Management on small projects per above requirements, with support from Project Managers.


  • Ensure Health, Safety environmental and quality is embedded within the culture.
  • To become commercially aware of the project requirements, cost and timescales.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner to customer’s clients and contractors.
  • Behave in a professionally, competently and ensuring compliancy with legislation and company policy.

Key Competencies

Competent with MS Office

Communication skills

Experience in engineering background / ship building environment

Use of planning tools (MS Project)

Qualification and Experience

HNC/ DEGREE in marine related discipline

Management experience in engineering environment

Commercial experience
